Pan Off

The timing gears are helical.
The "oil pan" has a screen above the sump area, and oil pump. Oil is pumped up into the main bearing, then passes through collars around the journals which carry the oil out to the large connecting rod bearings.
Instead of seals around the ends of the crank and cam, the Renault has a single helical gear, which only serves to drive the oil back into the crankcase.
